Description
25 X 25 oil painting of a rough-legged hawk soaring over an upstate NY winterscape, with the sun setting in the distance. Rough-legged hawks are like snowy owls in that they live in the arctic on lemmings and sporadically migrate to the northern US during lemming crashes, looking for food. When in the northern US in winter, they mostly eat field mice, which make a pretty good substitute for lemmings.
This is an entirely imaginary landscape, based on upstate NY winter landscapes I've seen a hundred times, designed to point out the similarities between upland farm country in the northeast in the winter and the arctic tundra.
