Description
11 X 14. Firefly extravaganza in Central NY on a night of the full moon at the end of June in 2018. Went for a long walk at night. So many fireflies it was hard to believe. Walking down the road, they were bouncing off me, off my face and chest. I was literally walking through swarms of fireflies. Took a little flashlight with me so I could "talk" to them. I'd flash it at one and it would seem to go nuts, and fly around like crazy, maybe thinking "Hey! That's the biggest firefly I ever saw!"
Very warm night. Heat wave, 95 degrees for about 5 days - freaky for upstate NY. Coincidence? Doubt it. Fireflies originated in tropical America and spread north. Wondering if the unusual number of fireflies and the unusually warm weather might have something to do with climate change/global warming?
